Robert’s original idea of a layover in Minneapolis upon returning from Johannesburg South Africa turned into a 5 night stay! We are so glad his parents were willing to give him up for 5 more days and that he decided to come see us. We made a couple of signs during family home evening and when I asked McKenna to carry the one her and RJ made (pink of course), she said “that’s embarrassing”! She is too young to be embarrassed.
We found the carousel for Robert’s bags but RJ noticed that he would be coming down an escalator a few carousel’s down. We decided to walk over there to greet him as he descended. He surprised us by coming down right when we got there.
Robert’s friends, the Barrie’s met up with us shortly after. Robert had met their son in Cedar City Utah and they had since moved out to the Twin Cities area. Robert chose this noodles restaurant for dinner.
Amanda came from North Dakota the next day and Robert showed us pictures and pulled out a suitcase full of souvenirs. It was really fun to see all of his stuff and hear his stories.
The police use these whips (usually with added trinkets on the end) to maintain control. It must not work as well as they would like because according to Robert, the people live more under mob justice. If a mob catches someone breaking the law, they will chase them, place them in a stack of tires and light them on fire.
On Friday, we invited Robert’s friends over for a game night. Robert also showed them his exotic goods one of which was some kind of dried worm that is eaten like a chip or cooked in food. Proving their “manliness” they ate a crunchy, dirty worm and appeared to have regretted it.
Robert brought home a fun game called 30 seconds which is a lot like catch phrase. We played and snacked on real chips and a peanut butter cheesecake I made special for Robert.
We were supposed to go sledding on Sat. but it was below zero and the snow was mostly ice. Our back up plan was the MOA but my attempt at getting coupons for the aquarium failed. We chose to go bowling instead. RJ kicked our trash.
We watched a lot of March Madness, had a movie night (Frozen) with a special cake made by McKenna, and Robert even got to teach my little sunbeams. It was really fun having Robert and Amanda here for a few days. Can’t wait to see them again in June.
